Construction Adhesive from DELO Used in Aircraft is Flame-Retardant

DELO, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of industrial adhesives for automotive, consumer and industrial electronics applications, now offers a two-component adhesive for aircraft interiors. Made from epoxy resin, DELO-DUOPOX AB8390 is ideal for bonding lightweight overhead storage bins found in airplanes. In addition to ditch and pot applications, this flame-retardant construction adhesive is ideal for load-bearing connections with inserts.

Before adhesives can be used in aircraft interiors, they are subject to various tests to ensure they meet the requirements for fire protection, including FST, flammability, smoke density and toxicity in accordance with CS/FAR part 25 §25.853 (a)(1)(ii)/(d) and ABD0031. DELO-DUOPOX AB8390 independently fulfills all the qualifications.

This colorfast white, high-strength construction adhesive offers good resistance in temperatures ranging from -55°C to +85°C. It will remain white for more than 1,000 hours at +70°C with an air humidity of 85%, keeping it aesthetically pleasing to passengers without having to be painted and varnished during assembly.

The new adhesive can be easily distributed using the DELO-DUOPOX dispensing system. The thixotropic epoxy resin is quickly and effortlessly applied, just like a one-component adhesive. The 30 minute processing time allows for accurate manual assembly and precise alignment.

By using higher temperatures, like 60°C, the curing process is accelerated and cycle times are reduced.

DELO-DUOPOX AB8390 complies with the RoHS directive 2015/863/EU and offers excellent resistance to chemicals, including Skydrol, the reference fluid in the aircraft industry, as well as heat.
