DELO has a broad portfolio of dual-curing adhesives available with several specified chemical properties, each to fit the many sub-applications and materials found in optoelectronics. One specific epoxy resin, part of our DELO DUALBOND series of dual-curing adhesives, is highly trusted by consumer camera manufacturers.
After an irradiation time of less than one second, the properties of this adhesive already begin to manifest; after five seconds, the compression shear strength on glass reaches as high as 18 MPa. The adhesive also ensures good adhesion to other typical optoelectronic substrates such as aluminum, FR4, PPS, or LCP.
The cloudy, medium-viscosity material cures under UV light at a wavelength of 365 nm in layers up to 1.5 mm thick. Being a member of the DELO DUALBOND family, in the case of thicker adhesive layers or harder-to-reach shadowed areas, the dual-curing adhesive is additionally exposed to heat for full polymerization. This process typically takes places at +80 °C for 50 minutes.
This adhesive is especially resistant to outgassing and shrinkage, which is important for optical precision. Its low coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE), matching both electronic components and PCBs (printed circuit boards), ensures high optical quality, even in cases of temperature fluctuations.
DELO optoelectronics adhesives serve many applications, including LED packaging, photonic integrated circuits (PIC) and wafer-level micro-optics (WLMO). This specific adhesive, however, is optimized for use in consumer cameras, namely in smartphones and other devices. For all of these use cases, which each use ultra-fine components and substrates, its precision-enabling properties make it an ideal material choice.
DELO DUALBOND adhesives like the one mentioned are available in a plethora of modified versions, including one in black to shield the ray path or optical elements and absorb scattered light. Another option comes in white, provides increased reflection and a subsequent higher light yield. This particular product has small fillers, making the adhesive suitable for even more miniaturized optoelectronics applications.
