Before adhesives can be used in aircraft interiors, they are subjected to various tests to prove their suitability. Several DELO epoxy resins fulfill fire protection requirements*, with DELO-DUOPOX AB8390 being used by the Tier-1 supplier FACC in Austria to bond overhead storage compartments.
This two-component structural adhesive has been specially developed for use in aircraft interiors, including sandwich panels, and features important properties such as resistance to temperatures between -55 °C and +85 °C. The adhesive is white in color to match with cabin panels and is resistant to yellowing, proven in a 1,000-hour storage test at +70°C with 85% humidity.
The viscosity of thixotropic adhesives like DELO-DUOPOX AB8390 can be reduced by shaking or shearing, thus facilitating their dispensing. Once the adhesive is no longer subject to dynamic stress, it restores its original viscosity and becomes more flow-resistant.
The DELO-AUTOMIX dispensing system allows two-component adhesives like DELO-DUOPOX AB8390 to be as quickly and easily applied as a one-component adhesive. Manual processing lasts a duration of 30 minutes, which allows for the component to be reworked if necessary. The adhesive cures completely at room temperature while higher temperatures of around +60 °C accelerate the curing process. Due to optimized dispensing behavior, combined with its temperature and yellowing resistance, the flame-retardant construction adhesive is not only ideal for load-bearing insert connections but also for adhesive bonding in ditch-and-pot applications.
