Edge blackening in AR optics manufacturing presents significant challenges. Traditional manual processes are slow, inconsistent, and uneconomical for large-scale production. The advancing miniaturization and complex geometries of AR waveguides require precise, repeatable processes that conventional methods cannot provide.
With our new Edge Blackening System, we offer a pioneering complete solution that combines high-performance coating materials, jet valve dispensing technology, and UV curing in one integrated system. Our solution is specifically designed for automated, high-volume production and enables AR waveguide manufacturers to achieve superior reflection control with maximum process efficiency.
At the heart of our system is DELO KATIOBOND OE6107, a UV-curable, light-absorbing polymer with exceptional optical properties. With an absorption coefficient of 50 OD/mm at 800 nm, the material achieves over 99.9% light absorption at just 60 µm layer thickness and optical densities up to OD 3. The coating is applied contactlessly using precise DELO-DOT PN series jet valves, even on the most complex geometries like AR waveguide edges.
The DELO-DOT PN series jet valves ensure precise, contactless dispensing even on narrow AR waveguide edges or prism sidewalls. The combination of highly absorbent polymers, jetting technology, and UV-only curing enables fast cycle times, consistent coating quality, and significantly reduced production costs compared to manual processes.
