Physics and Chemistry Teachers Impressed

Physics and chemistry hold a significant place in industrial high-tech environments. This is why teachers of these subjects from nearby schools were invited for the first time on a field trip… to DELO.

Hands-on lab demonstration for teachers

Our hands-on lab demonstrations, covering topics such as microelectronics, optics, and mechanics, were enthusiastically received by all participants. The teachers gained inspiration and ideas for their classes so that their students can also vividly experience how the laws of physics are applied in our engineering work.

They raised engaging questions, both technical and practical, regarding adhesive processes. Moreover, there was a lively discussion about which grade levels and topics in physics could include adhesive technology in their curriculum.

Our editorial team found this topic intriguing, so we’ve outlined some potential topics for including the subject into German classrooms:

  1. Secondary Level I (Grades 5-9):
  • General physics and chemistry: These units cover the basics of forces and matter. When discussing topics like matter structures, states of matter, state changes, or melting and boiling points, opportunities arise to explore adhesion and surfaces. Adhesives can serve as examples of intermolecular forces, adhesion, and cohesion.
  • Material science: Some curricula include units on various materials and their properties. Adhesives can be introduced as a type of material that binds different substances together.
  1. Secondary Level II (Grades 10-12):
  • Organic chemistry: Topics like plastics or chemical bonds and polymerization offer excellent opportunities to integrate adhesives into lessons. Adhesives, especially polymer adhesives, provide practical examples of polymer structures and networks.
  1. Additional potential connections:
  • Projects and experiments: Adhesives could be smoothly integrated into lessons through projects or practical experiments, such as testing the strength of various materials or exploring optimal adhesive usage conditions.
  • Technology and engineering: In technically oriented courses, adhesive technology can be a subtopic within modern industries like automotive or electronics.

For further inspiration, teachers can access the German "Art of Bonding" platform, created with DELO experts' support. It offers numerous illustrations, worksheets, and suggestions for exciting experiments and career orientation opportunities for students. Information is available via the online portal or by request at academy@delo.de.

Teachers are eagerly anticipating the DIY Finger Wrestling Adhesive Kit containing an LED lamp, DELO-PHOTOBOND, and stress testing components. The kit is available as teaching material upon request at academy@delo.de.
