On March 1, 2016, 12 students of the University of Stuttgart visited DELO for a joint exchange of experience.
In addition to their studies in mechanical engineering, the students participate in a competition in which they develop and produce an electrically driven racing car in accordance with certain specifications to compete in events of the Formula Student. DELO supports the students by providing adhesive and expertise.
Besides lectures about the basics of bonding technology, adhesive-friendly design and surface pretreatment, the focus of that day was on the discussion of the project. Together with engineers from DELO, the students planned and discussed how to bond the component they brought. For this purpose, they also tested various adhesives in the lab.
To equip the students for upcoming competitions, they attended lectures on the fundamentals of adhesive technology, bond-friendly design, and surface preparation. However, the core focus of these sessions was extensive project discussions.
Together with experienced DELO engineers, the students brainstormed on how to bond their components effectively. In the lab, they had the chance to test various adhesives and learn about their specific properties. In motorsports especially, adhesives are a crucial element in a vehicle’s lightweight design, making DELO's collaboration with the DHWB Stuttgart racing team especially beneficial.
The main competition for the DHBW Racing Team is the Formula Student Germany Electric (FSE), the largest of its kind. The goal is to develop an electric vehicle with a design reminiscent of impressive yet costly Formula 1 race cars. Participants compete against teams across the globe in numerous disciplines to earn points. Aside from the main event - the Endurance Race - there are seven additional categories such as engineering, design, cost and manufacturing, efficiency, and acceleration. The overall winner is determined based on the total score across all categories. Over the years, the DHBW Stuttgart racing team has solidified its position as one of the competition’s strongest contenders, securing a spot in the Formula Student Germany Electric (FSE) top 10 worldwide rankings. In 2015, their Sleek15 finished at an impressive 8th place overall in the FSE competition. The team excelled in the Endurance Race at a remarkable 6th place and achieved an outstanding 2nd place in efficiency.
We wish the team continued success in future competitions and the best of luck!
Through the DELO Academy, DELO actively collaborates with universities, colleges, and even schools. Our aim is to promote education and research in the field of modern materials and bonding technologies. Partnerships with educational institutions enable us to inspire young talents in the field of bonding technology and contribute to the development of cutting-edge technologies.
