Innovation for Panoramic Head-up Displays

UV-curing structural adhesive enables P-HUD mass production

The structural bonding of complex P-HUD components poses major challenges for automotive manufacturers. Various materials from magnesium die cast to glass must be reliably connected while maintaining series production cycle times.

DELO presents PHOTOBOND SJ4195, a specially developed solution for panoramic head-up displays. The UV-curing structural adhesive enables mass production of P-HUD systems with optimal process control and short cycle times.

P-HUD systems

What are Panoramic Head-up Displays?

P-HUD systems project information across the entire windshield width – from A-pillar to A-pillar. The head-up display technology makes driving information, navigation instructions, and infotainment content visible to all passengers.

The windshield projection occurs on a dark-coated area of the front windshield. This creates sharp, high-contrast images in any lighting situation.

Challenges with P-HUD Components

The complex automotive displays consist of various materials:

  • Magnesium die cast
  • Various plastics
  • Glass components
  • Electronic circuit boards
  • Optical components

Simultaneously, automotive series production requires short cycle times and complete process control at high volumes.

DELO PHOTOBOND SJ4195: Specially Developed for P-HUD

The UV-curing structural adhesive was specifically designed for panoramic head-up displays. Its properties are perfectly tailored to P-HUD requirements.

Your Benefits at a Glance

  • Excellent adhesion to magnesium die cast (12 MPa)
  • Low outgassing for optical components
  • Controlled dispensing without flow-out
  • Second-fast UV-curing for series cycle times
  • Colorless formulation without optical impairment

Optimized for Mass Production

The viscosity has been specifically adapted to P-HUD component geometries. This enables controlled dispensing even at high layer thickness. Larger gaps are reliably bridged.

Curing with UV light occurs within seconds and achieves the short cycle times necessary for automotive series production. The colorless adhesive enables application control via vision control systems – crucial for quality assurance in high-volume production.
