Fourteen Adhesives from DELO Compatible with High-intensity LED Modules and Light Engines


DELO, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of industrial adhesives for automotive, consumer and industrial electronics applications, now offers 14 light-curing products that enable a durable, high optical quality of LED modules and light engines. Ten of the 14 products have received approval for direct LED contact, while the remaining four are certified for indirect contact. These adhesives will be featured at The LED Show, March 1-3 in Santa Clara, CA.

Ideal for use in LEDs found in automotive, outdoor, residential, industrial and commercial lighting applications, adhesives in the DELO-PHOTOBOND, DELO-KATIOBOND and DELO-DUALBOND families demonstrated chemical tolerance in standard LED industry compatibility tests. These adhesives, that can withstand extreme conditions, play a major role from fixing lenses or reflectors, to sealing LED lamps into glass plates or housings.


During testing, modules with adhesive on top of the LED were supplied with 700 mA of electric current over a six-week period and heated up to 70°C. During this time, and in a subsequent intensity test, there was no decrease in brightness for the products that are suited for direct LED contact and a very slight decrease for those for indirect LED contact. The adhesives’ low-outgassing and yellowing-resistant nature ensures long-term high optical quality of the LED module.


Light-curing epoxy resins and acrylates of the DELO-KATIOBOND, DELO-PHOTOBOND and DELO-DUALBOND families are the most efficient choice for LED-compatible products as they enable fast assembly processes. They are also more stable and provide a better seal than silicones, which can allow humidity to enter into the LED and electronics.


Light-curing adhesives feature temperature stability and flexibility, enabling them to withstand heat, cold and vibrations. Their universal adhesion capabilities offers a reliable and nearly invisible connection for even the most complex geometries and material combinations.
